Got my 2001 A4 - first impressions
Well, I picked up my brand new 2001 A4 1.8t Quattro, manual with sport and premium package and Bose stereo. I didn't really want the Bose but the car had everything else I wanted (Black with Black leatherette plus the option packages and quattro) so I took it. The next day I drove it from Santa Barbara to San Diego for the weekend.
Just as a reference I had been driving a 2000 A4 (of exact same specs except the Bose) with a GIAC 1.0 bar chip until June when it was totalled in an accident.
Despite 'taking it easy' for the break-in period, I noticed a nice boost in performance over my 2000 A4 (pre-chip). It's certainly not half way to the chip level of performance (since the torque i believe is only 165 compared to the GIAC chip 2000 at about 245-250) but it is noticably peppier. Beyond that the car seems functionally identical to the 2000. The only exterior difference I could find is that silly little red bit on the T of the 1.8T emblam on the back. The power lumbar supports in the driver and passenger seats are VERY nice. I would have happily shelled out $200-300 for this if it was an option on the 2000 or 2001 but it came free, along with the curtain airbags that were like a $500 option on the 2000.
There is some squeak/rattle on the drive side door I'll have to get on the dealer (Rusnak) about. And they did (somehow) fix the weird 'waffling-wurbling' thing I used to get when I drove with the sunroof all the way open and the windows rolled up or with only the back windows rolled down.
My only regret is that I couldn't find a 2001 with the ESP option (along with all the other stuff I wanted). For $500 this system seems like a great deal and it could well have prevented the accident I got into that totalled my poor 2000.
Now I've just got to sit back and anxiously await the release of a chip for the 2001.

Congrats on getting your 2001! Can you comment on the pricing/deal you got? I will be visiting Dealers shortly in LA area to put a deposit on searching for or ordering my 2001 (I want similar packages), any help would be appreciated.
