Can't help with a detector, but....
I CAN sympathize . I have a court date tomorrow for almost exactly that:

I know a cop though, so I'm supposedly getting out of it. *knocks on wood*

BTW, I got a 83/55 down to 65/55 (~$125) and a 73/55 to a ....
"failure to obey a traffic control device" ~$100, I think.
Hmm, now I recall a $70 ticket, so maybe that was one of those - whatever

Bel 980 is also a very good unit
I should put a flame suit on now because all the Valentine One zealots are probably going balistic right about now, but the top of the line Bel 980 is really good and can be had for about $220. It is smaller and easier to remove and replace than the V-1, which is really important if you ever have to park your car in questionable areas.
I just drove NY-Fla with it and its range was incredible (saved me at least 2 tickets). It has recently been tested on both speedlabs.com and radartest.com and it came up the equal of the V-1. Not bad for a unit that costs about half as much.
