OK, so I've seached this topic to no avail and have read many different things.

It's not the rear fuel pump gurgle. It's coming from directly in front of me in the dash/engine, and it comes with stepping on the gas when the engine is cold. The sound accelerates with the RPM's, in gear or neutral. It sounds like sucking water through a straw when the water is almost gone...albeit a large straw. It DOES sound a little like the rear pump, but from the front, and it definetly goes away after driving for a bit. 98K miles on a 2001 1.8tQ. Engine replaced at 78K due to sludge recall (seized on me). Had timing belt/belts and all hoses replaced at that time as well. Convenient.

Side note: check engine lite has come on many times, and eventually turns off. Hooked up to buddy's VAG and random misfire, no cylinder ever mentioned. This probably isn't related...or is it? I've only noticed the sound came quite some time after the RAM's.

Heater core? Have you bled it?

brought it back to min/max and it's fine.
