Guys,
Recently, when I start my car, there is no low engine purr, instead there is a "rattling", harsh noise in addition to the engine noise. I think this additional noise is from the engine fan, and not the engine. It sounds like an old diesel engine. Any hints on what it might be? It's not affecting the drive in any way, but it just doesn't sound like a smooth well tuned audi engine. BTW, my car is an 1999 A4 2.8Q, with 21K miles on it. There shouldn't be anything wrong at all. Please advise.

Actually, another thing that disturbs me is that on every servicing (6 months), there is something or the other which requires work. Why is this car requiring so much maintenance? Is it the norm?

Is this a metal-on-metal tapping sound or more of a plastic sounded ticking?

Actually, it is more of a badly greased machine. Something like a very old deisel engine. Any idea what it can be?

And i assume (Engine Malfuction)light isnt on??

Oil level is ok (mid range)... no engine malfunction light
