Default H&R coilovers.... how are they? ive heard that they blow

ive heard several stories of h&r coilovers blowing a while ago. I dunno if they still do it or if its still a problem. should this potential problem hinder me from getting them?

anyone know about the springrates/stiffness on these compared to others.

Thanks

Default i believe the problem with blown seals were on the H&R ultras

which are only recommended for track use

Default mine still work

35000+ miles

What do you have now? I was comming from non-sport and just wanted to go a little lower than the lowered street springs. I also wanted to balance the chassis (a friend has corner scales). If you have factory sport suspension I would not expect much of a handeling improvement but you can go lower.

I think they fixed that issue last year.

Default i have factory sport suspension..

it is really spongy w/ lots of body roll and dip/dive ..
its hard to believe that there wouldnt be much of a handeling improvement w/ a new set of coilovers, because i really dont like the soft factory suspension.
did you compare it how your car rides w/ factory sport supsension? do you find other shock/spring combinations firmer (ie. koni/bilstein/etc.)

Default I just went from factory sport to h&r coilovers

and while I don't have a ton of miles on them yet I do notice a good improvment. I previously had stock sport suspension with the neuspeed 19mm bar, and the improvment is noticeable and very nice. I have very little body roll now, and much less dip and dive. I used to hate the bouncy feel I would get on the highway, kind of like the car was floating. That is now gone thankfully. This is how the 'sport package' should have come from the factory, not to rough, but stiff snd solid enough. I am very happy.

Default Re: they're pretty good. i'll probably be upgrading to something with a bit higher springrate

what would come with a higher springrate? i know a lot of people seek a ride thats not too harsh and stuff like that, but i dont mind too much. I just like it stiff... so higher springrates is what im also looking into.
what springs are stiffer the h&r besides the obvious stasis

Default I still have the non-sport sway bars

and was comparing it to my friends 2001 sport. This is just an opinion. My wheels are very heavy (ronal LZs w 235 40s)

As far as ride his car is a little more "floaty" but still handles very well. Handling has alot to do with how must you trust the car to do what you ask of it. I trust his car just as much I trust mine in any given corner.

I just didnt want you to be disappointed in the H&Rs as it is not a vast improvement to the sport setup as audi did a very good job there.

Default Re: I still have the non-sport sway bars

so they are good, but not great improvement over stock sport.
if you were to do it any other way, would you? if so , with what.
Thanks
