Default ALOT less than 450 lbs lol

i put the turbo-350 (big heavy auto tranny that handles 400 hp 500 ft/lbs, and filled with 15 quarts of oil, and with a torque converter) in my monte carlo by hand w/o a jack, it was prob like 150-200 lbs

Default pretty heavy. make sure you have somebody else to help you

and definitely get a nice jack to hold it in place. I'd say it weighs about 200 lbs. Spending $50 for the tranny jack is nothing. Safety is always the biggest factor. You can always rent the tool out, too, to pay for the price you spent on it.

Default maybe 100 lbs... not too much more... certainly less than 200lbs.

filled with fluid and with the center differential and flanges attached.

Default That jack looks pretty small.

Looks like it might tip over in any direction with our trans on it since it is pretty long. Thing I don't like is that it is a scissor type instead of a hydraulic.

If you already have a hydraulic jack you might want to just buy the tranny adaptor they sell for the same $50.<ul><li><a href="http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=507">click here</a></li></ul>

Default Naw . .with a full crate and a small pallet mine was ~140 lbs ready to ship.

I figure I had a bit over 50 lbs of wood crate, pallet and screws so....

Either way the Harbor Freight piece will work fine and dandy .. BTDT with that same jack. Good enough for ocassional home use IMO.

Default There is a stack height issue to consider. With my hydraulic jack and the tranny adapter I wouldn't

have had clearance to get the old tranny out from under the car. As it was, with the scissor jack I barely had room to get the tranny out from under the car by running it out along the driveline 'tunnel'. Even that wouldn't have worked had I not already pulled the rear diff to change drive ratios.

Default How high were your jack stands?

I guess the trans would need to come off the jack before being moved out from under the car. Had mine done that way a few times since the shop did not have a lift at the time. The first time I did mine I did not have a tranny jack so it took 2 of us to put it back in, if I have to remove the tranny next week I might have to find a jack since I will be doing it at home this time around. Just hope it was a bad slave, but wont know till I put that back in tonight.
