is it hard to change the thermostat without removing the timing belt?

V6 is a bitch if not doing a belt service, etc. Never done one on the 4 cylinder but hear it can be done in short order with minimal things to remove/move.
It is behind that silver/aluminum flange behind the belt in this pic. Same on all versions of the V6 for the USA B5 AFAIK...

But I suppose you could cheat with some zip ties or something...although, like many "shortcuts" it's probably easier to just do it right.

Excuse me, I should have said both ribbed(serp) and toothed(timing) belts. The factory manual describes them this way(p.E 19-10). Usually, I prefer the terms in (...). Call them what you will, they amount to a bit of work to remove. ; )
