Default a response . . .

Thank you for the gracious offer, but I feel I'm not nearly qualified to accept or handle your request. There is someone who comes to mind who might offer you some help(see pic) and is qualified to handle someone in your current life situation.

Default if you don't need to change the belt, just use white out to mark a line between the belt and all the

sprockets. When you reinstall the belt, just line up the marks and you're good to go. You don't need the cam tool unless you want to fine tune your cam timing - belt or no belt replacement (or you can pop off the valve covers and check the cam marks)

You can remove the T-stat without taking off the belt, but you must exercise care that the belt doesn't pop off. What a used was zipties and V clamps. But you need to be clever in doing this.

So just open it up to service position, remove the belt and the T-stat.

Default Took me about 1.5 hours to replace my T-stat ...

and that includes pulling the front end slightly after taking off the bumper. Car was on level ground too

But not a recommended procedure for everyone

Default Now I know how he gets to the bottom of his clients' troubles....

assuming he enjoys gathering his own material.

Default don't think you mentioned the v clamps before when we chatted about it....

I took a look at trying to do it w/o taking the belt off but I didn't see how you could pull the entire flange out enough even if you let the tension off and twist the belt 90 degrees.

I forget did you take the tension off the belt and what are "V clamps" and how did you use those to help...just curious?

Default when I took it off, I didn't use my v-clamps since I ziptied it in place enough that the belt stays

on the cam and the crank. I then removed the tensioner and got to work. Note that I didn't even expose the other cam and this is why I did the T-stat pretty quick. It was minimal work to get here.

But when I put it back, I realized that I could have just left the tensioner on (loosened a bit), and pull the belt to the edge. This is where I would have used my clamp and ziptie. With this way, there was less than an inch behind the belt and it look enough to pull the T-stat housing out.

On the 2 bottom pics, you'll see that I always use my clamps for various reasons. This is to prevent jumping off the belt when I know I have the correct number of teeth for cam to crank timing. This is very useful on dual cam heads wherein the cams always move without belt tension
