has anyone (1.8t OR 2.8) ever had to replace their electric fan? if so, what was the problem?

For as long as I have owned my car I've never heard it come on, maybe the car just never gets hot enough for it, but I've alwaysed wondered if it needs to be replaced. I know my fathers S4 comes on all the time, but thats different

Default I just bought a new one

Here is my sad story:

My clutched fan went dead. My Aux electric fan had to run much more often.

I finally replaced my Clutched fan but then my Aux Electric fan started popping the 40Amp fuse under the dash immediately.

On investigation I found that the fan was heating up to insane temperatures within a minute of running. That says 'Bad Electric Aux Fan' to me.

I got one on ebay new for $150 and will be installing it next week.

Default My vote is for a bad fan.

One way to test is the get both fans going and after about 60 seconds touch the motor on the aux fan (while its running). If its hot its most likely bad (internal resistance causing heat). Your EFK is probably nice and at ambient engine bay temp.

I'll be installing my new secondary next weekend, I'll update you on how it goes.

$150 on ebay! new.
