My wife had three wrecks (claims) and a speeding ticket all in one year. State Farm dropped us quickly. In addition, I had a ticket on my record back then (pre-V1 days and got nailed with front and rear K40s).
I called every agent and company in the book. We were literally one ticket or claim away from being absolutely uninsurable on the types of cars we owned. Moreover, two of our cars were leased and we needed the higher limits.
I did not have an A4 back then but can tell you Direct quoted me $ 1,400.00 a MONTH on the four vehicles I owned back then. Direct, however, only goes back either one or two years on the driving record.
The standard companies are going to be the cheapest (State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate, and etc.). If standard companies will not write you coverage, I have found the best rates with Atlanta Casualty and PGA. Either company may write you and their rates are not that bad.
Also check with Nationwide as they have their standard line and their High Risk pool. You may be able to make class II or III at Nationwide. My rate was cut by about 40 percent when we qualified for Nationwide's class III and changed from Atlantic to Nationwide. Class II was about another 15 percent reduction. Class I (standard policy) is about a 75 percent reduction from the High Risk company.

State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate, and etc. will rip you in the @ss. The insurance brokers, Survival, Auto Insurance Specialist, etc., search a database of over 300+ insurance companies to find you the lowest quote. How high is your rate? I have like 6 points (from aprox 2.5 years ago---I was 18 then) and the insurance on my 98 2.8QM is $430/month and I'm a 21yr old male... I have 5 more months and my record will be spotless.

I could be your dad. I pay $135 for two cars/month...and one is an A4. Only one ticket in the past three years...and I went to traffic school.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

Default I was commenting on how "high" his was...not how "low" mine was

I got an ok deal....I just don't know how someone at the age of 20 would be able
to afford a $430/month car insurance payment AND a $400-500/month car payment.
I was lucky when I was 20 to have a car with an operational first gear (MGB Roadster -
who needs first anyway?)
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
