Has anyone had their auto tranny lockup in a gear?
My friend has an A6 with an auto tranny that seems to be locked in one of the middle gears and just refuses to shift during driving. Has anyone else experienced this? He has a 1999 A6 2.8Q tip tranny of which prob. similar to A4.

Look at the gear indicator on dash.
If it reads the same in "tipped" or in D (3rd gear)then most likely it's in safe mode. Lots of things can trip this, pray it's not the transmission.
