Have 97's had any probs with their coilpacks?

Mines real tough to start when cold, when it warms up its fine...but if it sits all night i usually cant get it started...really rough, and vag says misfire in 3 cylinders...any help? thanks

My guess is that the plugs are fine, but they are cheap enough to address if you're not really sure.
Moving on, my guess is you're losing pressure in the fuel line when the car is sitting overnight. Until the fuel pressure stabilizes, you could get some misfiring. There is a check valve in the fuel system that prevents fuel from flowing back to the tank when the car is off. Someone mentioned that this valve is integrated with the fuel pump. Might be something to look into (replacing the fuel pump).
How many miles on the car? Fuel filter is supposedly a lifetime part. Realistically, if you have >100K miles, change it. www.robsaudiworld.com has a good write up that details a shortcut to the job. If you take it to a dealer, they'll do the 5 hour job which involves dropping the fuel tank. If you DIY following that articule, it should take you an hour plus the price of the part.
