Default Having instrument cluster issues....1998.5 1.8T

For last two months I have had intermitent problems with the outside temp sensor. ( wacked readings) Last night, the sensor was screwing up and than the temp readout on the instrument cluster went out. This morning, both seem to be working fine.
Would either one of these parts affect the other or do I have two seperate problems?

Default You need a new outside temp sensor...

I don't know if you are experiencing problems with your cluster display also. I would change the sensor first and see if that fixes things completely.
