Default Head Gasket busted... FML

Hello all.

This is a tragic story that happened to my car last night...

I've been posting that I'm having a issue with my 96 12v overheating.
I have replaced most of cooling components besides the radiator, and actually it is on it's way.
Since I wanted to flush the cooling system before I put new radiator in, I put Prestone radiator super cleaner, and drove 3 hours to my GF's house.
As usual, it was bit overheating if I turn on the AC, but no big deal.

As I was almost at my GF's place, I stopped by at one of the gas station to use the bathroom, and buy a can of beer. I came right out since the ignition was on, then somebody started talking to me. I talked to him for about 3 min, and returned to my car.

TEMP GAUGE ALL THE WAY TO H!!!

I freaked out. Turned the heater to MAX. no hot air. Opened up the hood. I couldn't really tell if there was a water or not since it was dark outside, and raining. I unbolted and shook the overflow tank. no water...
I turned the car off, and loosened the overflow tank. hissing like crazy.
I waited till all the hissing's gone, and open the cap.
I put more water in, and tried to find the leak. No clue.
topped off, and I loosened the heater hose to bleed air out.
There I found the problem. The plastic piece that hold the hose was broken, I guess due to the pressure built up while the car overheated.
I managed to tighten up the heater hose, then I started the engine.
It started, but with very unstable idle. I went out to check my car again.
That's when I found out LOTS of steam coming out of the tail...
OMG

I managed to get to my GF's house.

This morning, all the water I putted in yesterday was gone. I checked oil.
milky brown.. FML

I went to autozone, grabbed BAR's head gasket sealer and a jug of coolant.
flushed the system, and put those stuff in.

Now I'm back in ATL, and coolant leak is gone. No water in oil after 3 hrs of drive.

I guess that bar's gasket repair stuff really worked. However, it seems like it clogged my heater core.

The question is how long this stuff's going to hold it in place? I really don't want to do the head job since I got no garage, and it takes hell of time to get to head gasket..
At this point, I can either sell the car, do the head job, or just used it till the head leaks again..

Lessen learned tho. Never to put water alone when system tends to overheat...

People who have overheating issue... learn from my tragedy, and fix the system asap if you want to ovoid incident like mine.

Anybody had success with head gasket repair stuff for a considerably long time?
