Default Head Gasket Replacement...

is this as simple as:

1. take head off
2. take existing gasket off
3. put new gasket on
4. put head back on

or is there more to it? Also, anything else that I need to take into account?

Default Well, yeah, that's it...

but step 1 involves a bunch of sub steps to get **** out of the way. And since you're in there fvcking around, you may as well do the timing belt.

Default How do you know that gasket is bad?

They rarely ever fail. Most often, if you have coolant and oil mixing, it's the oil cooler failing.

Default i don't...I see oil leaks around my valve cover gasket...

so I tought i'd replace all gaskets and oil cap. I wasn't sure whether they (Head gaskets) fail often. They apparently don't, so I'll just replace the valve cover gasket and the oil cap.

Default Yeah, leaky valve cover gaskets are a little more common than head gasket probs.

I know Scott (audisscott) just replaced his VCG a few months ago. Look him up for some pointers.
