Default Headlight aiming question......

While trying to raise the aim of my headlights, I inadvertantly turned the outermost adjustment screw that is right next to the front quater panel. What does this do? I then found that it is the inner adjustment screw (directly behind the high-beam bulb) that adjusts the headlights up and down (clockwise to lower, counterclockwise to raise). I thought the other screw may adjust side to side, but I really couldn't see much of a difference when turning it while looking at the headlight's projection on a wall at night. Anyone know what this does?

By the way, this is on a 99.5 with the projector beam lights.

TIA
Jim

Default Don't bet on it......

Page 49 of 99.5 "Supplement to Owner's Manual":

Headlight Adjustment
Due to technical improvements to your vehicle's headlights, the headlight adjustment described on page 198 in your Owner's Manual (sedan model) or on page 203 (Audi Avant model) is no longer possible.

Have your headlight adjusted by your autothorized Audi dealer.

One of the advantages of misaligned low-beam headlights is that it scatters the poor suckers in front of you at night. I drove our brand new A4 Avant over the N Cascades Highway in Washington at night and discovered that the duffusus in front of me weren't pulling over in order to pee in the wilderness, but were trying to get out from under my factory misaligned low-beams.

When I figured that out, I felt very guilty about approaching any traffic from the rear.

When I finally got home, my local Audi dealer realigned the offending lights. One of them was way high. I hereby apologise to all those KCar & GMVan drivers who I almost forced off the road in front of me on that night (as if they're reading this site). However, it certainly gave me a feeling of power!
