where did you get the shifter and how much? Also, what did it come with? do you have the wiring and harnesses as well?

got the shifter at a junkyard for $150... has the whole shifter console and the wiring harness stops just after the long black tube in the pix here..... its that exact same kinda shifter(just missing the end of the wire harness-- see webpage pictures).......

http://www.audi1997.com/modifications/tiptronic/index.htm</a

I am trying to figure out the same thing. I am working with a guy in the A8 forum to try to come up with a mod for the A4 that will include paddle shifters for the B5 non-tip. Or for those who want to add them to their existing setup. Anyway, it is gonna take some time to figure this whole thing out. An easier way would be for someone with an A4 1998 tiptronic to let us take pictures of the tiptronic and where all the wires are going to and from. With that info. we can do miracles. ;-) You do not need the shifter either, you can use basically anything you want for tiptronic, ie. buttons, paddles, the ideas are endless!!

Default no wires in shifter?

ok... i've studied what i've got and looked all over for wires to splice like in the a8 outline but there are virtually no wires... i've taken it apart to the point where i can see all the "mechanical" things happening but the only electrical components i can see are the plug to light up the shifter at night and these right here..... i'm 95% sure that that HAS to be the tiptronic component of the shifter because:
1.it is the only electical component on the shifter
2. its the only thing i see thats really different btwn the 97 and 98 a4 shifters (see picture)

Default I have not figured this out yet,,one of these tip guys need to offer some help..

someone with a 98 tiptronic needs to kick down some much needed info to make this happen. That would be easiest like I said before. I'm gonna try to rent a 98 or 99 tip A4 and do some investigation on it. When I figure out the difference I am going to post it in the tech section so everyone will know how to mod their car to a tiptronic. You will not need the AMS over priced kit that has no directions. ANYONE, feel free to beat me to this!
