Default HELP! flashing CEL. DTC codes 16884 and 16885 Misfires in all cylinders

pulled up to an intersection and the car just died on me. I started it up and then it began to sputter and I got a flashing CEL. VAG'd it and got DTC codes 16884 and 16885. Coilpacks? vaccuum hoses? ignition amplifier?

99.5 1.8t 5spd

any help appriciated

If it's all cylinders...most likely the ignition amp.

Sounds like you may have a bad ignition power output stage, but hard to diagnose over the internet

can I swap in an ignition amp from a 99 2.8? I have a 99.5 1.8t, I assume they're the same...?

Default There's only 2 dtc's, can't be all cylinders. Probably only #2.

Then again, we could be way off. Maybe he sucked in a bunch of water!

Default as for sucking in water: OEM air box, I'm in Maine, 25 degrees outside...(m)

unless ice on my Kamei grill melted and got sucked in to the airbox, i doubt i could've sucked in that much water...no more than from a normal rain storm.

but if i did suck in water, what's the best way to resolve the situation?

Default to be accurate...

16684 says Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected (meaning it's either random or multiple)

16685 says Cyl. 1 Misfire Detected

Most people with a failed ignition switch module get a 16686 cyl 2 misfire. but that doesn't mean this isn't your problem.

check the module yourself
