pulled up to an intersection and the car just died on me. I started it up and then it began to sputter and I got a flashing CEL. VAG'd it and got DTC codes 16884 and 16885. Coilpacks? vaccuum hoses? ignition amplifier?
99.5 1.8t 5spd

unless ice on my Kamei grill melted and got sucked in to the airbox, i doubt i could've sucked in that much water...no more than from a normal rain storm.
but if i did suck in water, what's the best way to resolve the situation?

16684 says Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected (meaning it's either random or multiple)
16685 says Cyl. 1 Misfire Detected
Most people with a failed ignition switch module get a 16686 cyl 2 misfire. but that doesn't mean this isn't your problem.

check the module yourself
