How important is it that the work is done in conjuntion with an Audi dealer (so Audi techs can inspect the car for mechanical damage) or are these high end auto body shops equipped to take care of all that stuff. Thanks.

the audi shops will obviously know more about the car than indie shops. it's all communication. my body shop spoke daily w/ the parts manager at the dealer.
there were a few mess ups but nothing so bad to write home about. my local dealer doesnt have a body shop so they bring the car to an independant shop. i had my car repaired at another shop. the only unknown in the whole process was the control module for the airbags. no biggy.
it may take a little longer at an indie shop considering the a4 is still a *relatively* new car.
