Default Help identify the chip in my MkIV

I know this isn't a GTI forum but you B5 guys are some of the smartest I've encountered and I need your help.

I bought my GTI from a used dealer and have always known that it was chipped by the previous owner. I've never known what kind of chip was in it and have no idea who the previous owner was. I opened up the ECU the other day to see if I could figure out what chip is in there and snapped a pic of it. It clearly says 'GIAC' on the circuit board that the chip is soldered onto so I sent an email along with the pic over to GIAC to see if they can help me but they haven't gotten back to me (and I doubt they ever will). I was hoping to know what version of their chip is in the car so I can finally sleep at night.

So I turn my question over to the AW brains.... Anyone know what the heck I have?

TIA

Default does the GIAC in trace metal on the PCB give you a clue

or are you totally lost.

Default thats not determinable from the EEPROM.... the eeprom is flashed by the tuner iirc

thus the AMD chip is just the container.... it wont say what is in it.

he needs to actually take it to a tuner to find out what version of the software is written to the chip.

Default What your looking at is not a GIAC chip at all.

It is the stock VW chip soldered onto a GIAC board that is to hold a stock chip. This is an option when you get chipped so you can put the stock chip back in.

Default Not any type of version at all since the GIAC boards are a socket type

the one in the picture is just the stock chip option that you can get when you have the car chipped.
