I have just had the timing belt, tensioners, water pump, and thermostat changed on my car and now it sounds like a tractor when i first start up. After driving for a mile it runs smooth again, im just scared that something serious is wrong, and just as scared on getting my pocket raped again. Please someone try and guide me to things that i can check myself. i am pretty good with tools and instructions just dont have any special tools.

I'm not completely sure what you mean by "sounds like a tractor," but if they weren't careful when putting on the timing belt one of the sprockets may have moved or the belt may have been a notch off. It seems likely that this would cause a rough start until the ecu adjusts the timing to compensate which would explain it smoothing out after a while.
I don't know for sure if this could be the cause, because I'm not sure what would actually happen if the timing belt were off. Regardless, if this has been happening since this work was done I would bring it back to where you had the work done to get it checked out.

its a 2000 audi 2.8 v6 30v quattro. it sounds like a diesel but rougher.
i took it to a different garage and they said that the hydraulic tensioner and the tensioner roller (or whatever the real name for it is) was bad and charged me $710 to repair and replace. it seems to be running good for now, but we will see. my car likes to run good for 2-3 weeks before deciding to make me pay for some new parts!!
thanks for trying to help, i just got scared and didnt want to wait just in case it was damaging the timing belt, and i really cant afford a new engine. thanks again peeps

As I understand it, the first garage changed the tensioner (and should have changed the rollers which are prime failure points). What do they have to say for themselves? If you have not already, I would ask for some reimbursement.
