Does anyone know when the new A4 body style will be available in ths US?
I am looking at the A4, Saab 9-3, Acura TL, and Volvo S40. The Saab dealer told me that Audi has ceased production of the A4 (VW has also ceased production of the Passat) until some time in 02 when the new style is introduced. Is there any truth to this claim? I would hate to buy the A4 only for the style to completely change in a few months.
In my opinion the A4 was hands-down superior to either the Saab or the Volvo - but my wife likes the Saab. I have yet to drive the Acura, although it starts w/one strike against is as it is not available in 5-speed.
Can someone convince me that the '01 A4 is the right car? Thanks.

Audi has not ceased production of the current A4. I'll never understand why car dealers have to Bull$hit everyone.

For one, most answers here (99.99%) will say A4. It's an A4 forum after all
That said, you didn't mention any of the criteria by which you are judging by. What strengths are important? Your driving habits? There are so many factors that go into picking one, that some prose explaining the priority of need and wants on your part is necessary to get a remotely useful answer.
If your looking for interior cabin space, the TL and 9-3 wins over the A4. Performance? out of the box, it depends on the engine, but I'd give the nod to the TL again. Interior appointments? Volvo's out of the running, and it's a tossup between the TL and the A4, styling? A4 blows them all away, but that's subjective again.
You get the idea. More info, and we can perhaps help you. As far as the new body styling, that's a judgement call. Many folks here love the current one, and hate the new. some, including daily converts, like the new. either is a stunning example of engineering and design. I think it's more economics at that point, though the new model has some significant enhancements from what I read. Personally, I like my 2000 more than the new forthcoming car. There are no new features I've longed for, and need to get to make my drive more pleasant

If, as you say, you'd hate to buy the A4 only for the style to completely change in a few months, that may be exactly what happens. Maybe not 6 months, but, I'd guess, in 9 or 10.
If you can get over that reluctance, then, by all means, consider the '01.
If the A4 & Saab are in the running, the TL's going to feel like a Chevy Lumina in comparison.

I owned a 900SE (now the 9-3). The Audi handles way better and is far more comfortable/roomy in the front seats than the Saab. No sure about acceleration since I moved from a manual to an auto-I thought the Saab was better 0-40 and the 2.8 better 40-60. The Saab is slightly better on rear seat room, also nothing beats the Saab for practicality with the hatch and rear seat fold down-you can put a huge amount of stuff in there. I thought the Saab climate control slightly better too. Net, I'd rate the Audi a lot better for day to day driving driving experience. If you need the space flexibility, it's a toss up.
