Default HELP! No Forward or Reverse! Trans prob

I have a 1997 Audi A4 Turbo Quattro, Auto, Trans was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago, car drove fine, parked it for a year, came out started it back up, and now the car will not go into any gear, but when i put the car in drive i hear a LIGHT THUMP.

But nothing else... And i have a Check engine light on.. Not sure if a mouse or something chewed on some wires and screwed something up.... Just cant see how the transmission would go bad just from sitting for a year...

Any help would be appreciated.. I tried to scan for codes but my OBD2 scanner wont work on it, it says LINK for 1 min then says ERROR..

A common issue with these is the Neutral Safety Swtich. The plugs get very dirty/corroded. It could ABSOLUTELY happen whilst sitting all year.

They aren't cheap, but they do control your car's transmission. I would say the NSS is the culprit of threads like these 85 percent of the time. Otherwise it is the trans computer, which is even more if my memory serves.

Try cleaning your plug, pictured above, if it still doesn't work you will need a new switch, probably.

There is a DIY floating around for cleaning the plug.

Um, if it's an Automatic, it could be that it's got no fluid, or it's all gunked up. Making any noises? I assume that you gave it some throttle? Was there any resistance on the engine at all?

Good points, I guess I just assume people check those things before they post. But you know what they say when you ***+u+me

I assume you checked to see that all 4 axles and the propshaft are still connected?

Asside from your axles disconnecting from your car, it sounds like the neutral safety switch. Have you cleaned it or replaced it yet?

Before you run off and start checking electrics or things that have nothing to do with automatic transmissions, you might try flushing and changing out your transmission fluid and filter. Your pump can't make things happen if it can't pick up any lubricant because of fluid evaporation, leakage, or becoming gunked up.

Once you've verified the pump is actually pumping somehting beside air, THEN I'd go to electrics and linkage issues.
