First off i have a 98.5 A4 1.8T Quattro Tipronic. I started my car this afternoon and put it into reverse and nothing, it wont go fulling into reverse and it wont lite up on the dash indicating that i am in reverse, every other gear however, works fine. This is the first i have ever had a problem with the tranny. I am hoping this isnt a big problem, maybe the shifter or shifter cable/

any help is appreciated

I took apart the center console because i need to repair the tiptronic shifter this weekend anways. Mechanically the shifter seems to work fine. I also VAG'd the TCU and came back with no codes...

I tried going from drive straight to reverse and sometimes it goes in, most times not. I also tried to turn off the car, restart it , and go directly to reverse....this also works occasionally. When the car doesn't go into reverse, the indicator on the dash doesnt light up in the reverse position (like it Should)...any help please people!!!

i had an old acura legend that sometimes wouldnt go into reverse. I would shut the car off while in neutral, restart it in neutral and then shift to reverse. doubt it will work but worth a try if you didnt already try it that way.

I had it happen once with my old audi. I had no reverse and only a couple forward gears. Cleared codes with a vag-com and all was well.

it seems like i have to slowly ease it into reverse, as if it isnt positioned correctly on the shifter, all this out of nowhere
