I have been dealing with this problem for quite some time now. i have searched, and have gathered information which has led me to where i am now. i recently bought the car, and at first it was misfiring in all cylinders, so to start off i replaced the spark plugs and coil packs, misfire in cylinder 4 remained, as well with a few misfires in cylinder 2, not enought to set off a code. i replaced the MAF sensor because it was throwing a code for low input, and the ICM and there is no notable progress. i am confused as to where to go next. i appreciate any help given in advance.

Could be an injector then. Try swapping #1 and #4 to see if the misfire follows the injector.

I just finished doing so, the same codes remain except now the misfire in cylinder 2 is throwing a code. (P0302)

You might try a can of BG 44K to clean the injection system

The injector system was cleaned less than 3 weeks ago though. Nothing changed either. Im also hesitant to replace the injectors unless I know for a fact that they are faulty. From what I've seen, the injectors are pretty expensive What other factors could cause a permanent misfire in a particular cylinder?

Low compression

but it's either electrical or fuel in most cases. You have swapped coil packs right?

Yeah coil packs and spark plugs have been replaced. For some reason when I took the car to Mobil 1 for an oil change and injector cleaning the report thee gave me at the end said the fuel system needed maintenance. But I have disregarded that. Could it be that I need to change some of the components of the fuel system? (pump, filter, FPR) ?

How is the wiring to the coils? If they are hard, brittle, or the insulation falling off, it could have high resistance which means poor ground supply for the coils. Also, there has been ECM software for misfires, but when the engine is cold only, not for hot running misfires.

The wiring seems fine. The insulation is fine and they aren't hard or brittle. The misfires I'm having are both cold and hot but only at idle. Past 1500rpm they subside.

I came across something weird today, while messing with the vag com. The knock sensor for cylinder 4 is producing a higher amount of voltage than the rest. It goes up to 3.5 V at idle, while the rest will only go up to around 2.8V I am not throwing a code for a knock sensor though. Could this be a reason for a misfire?
