HELP - posted earlier with no replies - need advice re: tire pressure for 225/50/16???
Someone must have some input on this?!? :-) (And I did try searching the archives to no avail...)
If the factory 205/55/16s are to be at 32psi for a relatively unladen car, what is the optimum tire pressure for 225/50/16s? I am running 225/50/16 Pirelli P7000SS, currently at 32psi and they seem to be fine. However, I would appreciate some input from the folks that may have more experience with this tire size. I gather there is some leeway, however what is the recommended pressure for the 225/50/16 on an A4?
p.s. Attending the Seattle Audi Club's driving school on Monday and expect to learn lots incl. stuff on tire pressures, but would like to have a better idea on where to set them prior to the event too...
Thanks

My guess would be 36 to start with. The 32 pounds mentioned is too low for "spirited" driving, more like 38 front, 36 rear to get the tires and suspension working together. There's not a huge tire size difference, my concern on the larger size would be full contact at the center of the tread, you'll need enough air to keep the full face in contact with the road. Try chalking the tread and cranking a few 360's in the local parking lot, see what the contact is like.
If the pressure's low, the steering will be mushy and slow, if it's too high you won't get proper contact.
does that help? In other words, I don't know the answer.
