(help) replacing expansion tank, without complete drain of the coolant, is this possible?

1. when you disconect the hose, wont be the coolant gushing all over (preasurize?)

of the hose that connects to the small nipple (that appears to be your leak source)from the upper radiator pipe. Place that loose end in a suitable container, loosen the tank cap and raise the tank up as necessary to drain it. Once replaced, top off the new tank, bleed the system and you should be good to go.

do this when the car is COLD, like over night cold. there will be no pressure in the lines. just keep the open ends higher than their instaled positions. plug them with what ever fits. golf tee etc.
