Help! Speaker Problems
My passenger front speaker sounds like it's blown. Any kind of bass coming through it has the vibrating paper sound. Dealer has replaced the speaker once and the problem still persists, so I really don't think it's blown. I don't listen to music really loudly and the base on my concert system is only set to +3! Any ideas?
Thanks much.

you blew the speaker (again)
if the noise suddenly 'appeared' and does not go away, you probably blew the speaker. you will know because the speaker will sound AWFUL all the time. you should replace it with a pair (or two pair) of real speakers (aftermarket) since you obviously enjoy music enough to chew up the factory drivers. i plan to redo the whole stereo (except for the deck) and i've been driving those little nokias like mad, and they havent blown yet. maybe there's some problem with your deck...
Jonathan Fingold

After replacement, did it sound OK for a while before the problem returned?
Or did it sound the same (that is, like it's blown) right after replacement of the speaker? If replacement resulted in no improvement, I'd check for a problem in the Concert unit itself. Bad wiring might cause a problem like you're describing. If it sounded ok after replacement, and then started sounding blown again after some time passed, then I'd guess that your listening levels may be louder than you think and that you did indeed blow it again. But I routinely play mine with the bass at +4, pretty loud at times, and I haven't experienced any problems. Then again I'm mostly listening to jazz and blues, not stuff with a wicked heavy bottom end.
Rick

No, it pretty much had the same problem right after the replacement. I don't typically listen to stuff loud at all, meaning that you can easily talk over it with 2 people in the car. Also, not lots of bottom end. Frankly lots of radio stuff.

I have a blown speaker right now
The speakers in this car are not the greatest in the world...as a matter of fact, they are terrible. My 5 year old Cavalier had better factory sound by a big margin. I have the same problem, but I'm going aftermarket so I don't have to worry about it happening again. I'm sure you can find some good quality speakers at a very reasonable cost - at least from the way you listen to your current sound system. Good luck.

Well then I can't believe it's a blown speaker. Does it happen only in the front, on one channel?
By that I mean: Is it sounding bad ONLY in the front, and only on one side (left or right)? If it still sounded bad right after the speaker was replaced, why didn't you immediately go back to the dealer with the problem?
Rick
