I learned from my dealer yesterday that my 96 A4 (49K miles) needs new tie rod ends (both sides). It seems this would be a bit premature, has anyone else had this problem...I'm planning to appeal to AoA asking that they replace outside of warranty...

My 1997 1.8T (75,000 miles) just had the tie rod end replaced by my Audi dealer for $380.00. I talked to my dealer about the tie rod end recall and the dealer told me my VIN# is not in the range. I also called Audi USA and they said since my VIN# is not in the range, there is notihing they can do. Good luck!!

I've just had mine replaced at 65K(they were in BAD shape; at parking lot speeds it made a loud grinding/squealing sound when I turned the wheel).
I took it to an Audi specialist and cost $300. He had to soak the right side in anti-seize for 24 hours to get it off. I love my A4, but it is much more costly to fix than even my other Japanese imports were.
