Default HELP..... TIMING BELT blown out two days ago on Freeway

hi...

I have a 1997 A4 1.8t with 81K experienced ripped timing belt on the freeway. Does Audi have a power train warranty coverage for my Audi since its under 90K?

Do any of you audi owner have stories to share? Or have any advice with my current situation? I'm located in Seattle, Wa. if anyone can kindly assist, please help... thanks.

Later..

search the archives. most people change TB/tensioner at 60K miles to be safe.

Default timing belt/tensioner failure can result in thousands of dollars in engine dmg.

audi does not have a powertrain warranty past the standard warranty of 4/50k 3/50k, etc depending on the year of your vehicle. At 81k you're past audi's recommended maintenance point of 72k

Default Time to start looking for a new motor..... your valves are done for sure.

if you arent familiar with what happens when the crank keeps going and the valves DONT, you typically bend your valves which look a lot like big flat headed nails. Bent valves dont work too well.

In short the top end of your motor is ****ed really good. You may have ****ed your pistons too because if you do the valves a valve can strike the piston and damage it.

Essentially your engine is nearly 100% worthless, you need at the very least new valves, or a new head. Bend over because this choo choo train is expensive.

Default Ouch that's gonna hurt. Figure $3K-5K to fix

If you were having this car maintained by a competent dealer/ independent mechanic he should have told you to change it at 60,000 miles or 4 years. The timing belt tensioner on the 97 was a piece of junk. If you search this forum there are many people who have experienced this at much lower mileage. You gotta problem, wholesale price of that car with a blown motor is less than $1500.

Default Don't mean to pour salt on an open wound, but you were asking for it

The timing belts on these cars are to be changed at 60k. Going any longer is begging for trouble.
