Default Help With Tranny/OBD II Codes

I have a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T - 162,000 miles on it. Car does not drive. Engages forward and reverse when I give it a lot of gas - moves 1 foot and then disengages.

Getting the following codes on the reader: P1517, P0730 (D?), P0741(B?)

Bought the car like this. Any ideas? I'm thinking low transmission fluid ... but not sure. Need to tow to mechanic, but want to have an idea before I go so I don't get ripped off.

The car has a good history and has passed smog every two years. Last year was the most recent smog test. So they were driving it. Other than that the car is good. No burnt engine smell, no noise, and engine revs nicely. Battery is super low and needs a good charge.

Thank you for your help.

Forgot to mention ... I bought this off a co-worker who needed to sell due to money shortage and large family and I needed a car.

You should look up those codes to see what they mean. Yes, I'd start with the trans fluid. If you have your mechanic do this, be absolutely sure that he adds fluid only while the engine is running and the trans warmed up, and doesn't shut it off until the filler plug is put back. If this fixes the shifting, next I'd drain all the fluid and pull the trans pan for cleaning and a filter change.

Thank you for your assistance. Here's what I've been able to determine so far on the codes from the OBD II Code List:

P1517: Main Relay Circ. Electrical Malfunction
P0730: Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0741: Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off

I'm searching the codes on the forum, but from what I am able to see so far that others have P0741, but not in the code combination that I have.

Generic code readers don't do well with non OBDII codes.

I would try a VAG.com and see if you get more info about what is going on.
