i was running my car at idle... when all of a sudden it shut off for no reason... and started clicking very repeatidly, like click click click click click click click click. real loud. the engine isnt running. i took the key out of the ignition tried to turn it on, it just clicks and the dash lights click and fash, i think its electrical... anyways my engine wont turn on? any ideas?

i even tried putting jumper cables on it to see if it was like a power problem because i think its electrical... it still continued to click upon ignition....

it doesnt attempt to crank at all (that first errr err err noise before the engine combusts)

the clicking comes from what sounds like the passengers side of the engine bay.

if i continue to leave it in the on position (engine) it will continue to click repeatidly loud, but the interior and dash light begin to dim until i pull the key out of the on position and into the accessory position.


also to boot, i noticed something was wrong when my turns sand windshield wiper wouldnt work, after the problem with the clicking occured... they came back.. but now i have no engine

whats going on with these gremlins? i hope this has happend to someone before.. someone suggested that it was my battery... hope thats all it is..

i'd say the starter solinoid is bad. i'm not sure you can get them seperate from the starter.

it stopped working while it was running, how that be the solenoid/starter?

Did you change your timing belt recently?

yes, the p.o. had it changed... why would that matter?

I had a friend who's timing belt broke, and from what you said, made a similar sound. Just a thought

depending on when it was first changed.
