The reason I chose the Basslink was because it was small and I didn't have to bother with a separate amp. Bass quality is not as good as with decent separates, but I still have all my trunk floor space at least.
As far as the remote turn-on, if you're using speaker-level inputs (which it looks like you are), then it's already set up for auto turn-on/off. When the sub detects input signal, it turns on. When there is no signal for about 15 minutes, it shuts off automatically. At least that's how my Basslink works.
