1932: The above metioned companies fused to Auto Union AG, four rings symbolizing then four brands

1969: Purchase of the NSU Motorenwerke AG founded in 1873 as NSU. New name: Audi NSU Auto Union AG
1985: Today's name: Audi AG

This was the fist appearance of the 4 rings logo, originally with the individual logos of the 4 companys inside each ring.

the real story behind the Audi symbol is back in the day (pre-WWII) there was a racing series called Auto Union. The symbol was the 4 rings because there were 4 car manufactures competing in it. Audi did so well they evetually took the symbol and used it as thier own.

much AFTER WW2. In the pre war years he was an engineer on the Fuerer's "peoples car" you know, the VOLKSWAGEN (original beetle).
