HID bulb??

HID bulb??
For normal (old) headlight. Light bulb are either H1, 9006, 9004, H7.... etc.
For the REAL (new) HID headlight, I just know it is D2S. I saw some HID Conversion kit for non-hid headlight. It has something like H1 D2R/D2S.
My question is what is the name of Audi HID headlight bulb?? just D2S?? or (just an example) H1 D2S??

Re: HID bulb??
HID bulbs are D2S (Projectors) and D2R (Reflectors).
That D2R bulbs have masking and D2S do not. They are otherwise identical
I think you are refering to a HID bulb that has an adapter base installed to mount in an non-HID housing. H7-D2S would be for a Halogen (Non-HID) projector housing and a H7-D2R would be for a reflector housing (note: Audi did not make a stock HID Reflector headlight)

Xenon Info

Re: HID bulb??
Thank you jbaulsir
so that's mean all new Audi, VW, BMW, some high-class Benz all are using same style of bulb (D2S) because they all has HID projector housing. So i can go to Audi and buy a pair of HID bulbs to plug into BMW.
Are there any after-market bulbs??

No sure about the Benz's...
but I think they have reflector type HID lights. Also as long as the bulb type is correct the source is not important (like buying a replacement H7 bulb at a BMW dealer - it will fit a so equipped Audi).
And yes there are other sources for HID bulbs but go with a reputable manufacturer, the bulbs are expensive to replace.
