They have been making them for at least a couple years now.
The impressive part is that they are only .1 sec slower on 0-60 times and they are a few miles an hour slower on the slalom. all that with Kevlar, run-flat tires and other heavy parts.
The idea is to avoid the situation by not being there (as in fast get away) is the best protection.

we were at the BMW dealer (my dad's looking at either a 5-series or an E-class), and the salesman showed us this decked out 7 series that was outfitted with the protection package. Bulletproof windows, bomb proof underside, and a bunch of other features he mentioned. It was being delivered to some embassy official (some Eastern European country if I remember correctly).

I've seen jeeps, Golfs and just about any other car you can imagine.
I was working In Venezuela and was driven around in an armoured mini-van/chevy cavalier many times.
Not to good for the suspension or gas mileage though.
