Anyone have any insight to which is a better intake? The HKS seems to give a better HP gain, but doesn't look as sturdy.

I have had an HKS intake on my 99 A4 1.8TQMS for about 10,000 miles or so now and I haven't had a problem with it yet. No check engine lights or malfunctions as of yet. Noticed a small power increase and sound originally (although it didn't sound as good as I thout it would) but now I'm used to it. It was easy to install and the only thing that wasn't all that sturdy was the heat shield rubber "screw type holder piece" that came with it. I used my own self tapping screws to hold it in place instead because with their piece the heat shield wobbled. Good Luck
