Default How about this mod.....30v Throttle body on a 1.8t?

I just bought a throttle body from a 30v A4, and may play around with it this weekend to see if it will work with my '00 1.8t (doubt it since that's drive by wire) or my '97 1.8t. I figure it's bigger and would help with the performance.

I did meet a guy at Pike's Peak in '98 who had a 30v throttle body on his 1.8t, but he also had a modified intake manifold and such.

Anyone else done this? Any warnings or reasons why this could be a waste of time? And V6 owners want to buy this if I can't use it on my 1.8t?

Also have an Audi OEM cell phone for the A4 that was given to me to sell as a way to raise money for the Audi Corral at the 12 Hours of Sebring. If you guys know anyone who would be interested, let me know.

Default Like the sound of that...(m)

My thoughts would that if you can adapt the throttle body outlet to the manifold inlet you'll realize some good gains.

Question - will the increased airflow cause havoc w/ the ECU and related air/fuel ratios? If the motor is getting too much air it may not be able to keep up with the fuel and spark.

I may be totally off track because I do not have total in-depth knowledge on the 1.8T (eating humble pie) however as far as muscle cars are concerned, some of them do not react favorably to this mod because of problems with either their speed density (older models) or MAF setups.

Am I way off base? Sounds like a sweet mod though....wonder if installing a 30V throttle body on my 12V would give me anything more than a cramp in my wallet and skinned knuckles?

Default Hmmm...

I doubt it would work with DBW.
For the non-DBW, as long as the 30V TB has the ability to adapt like the stock TB without erroring out, it may be OK.
Of course, there is always the probability that for a given amount of throttle opening, there is an expected amount of air flow. With the larger TB flowing more at lesser openings, it may throw DTCs. Or, it's also possible the ECU will learn the new flow rates, and be fine. There's only one way to find out

How much bigger is the TB?

Default Hmmm, sounds like I might be better off selling it to a 12v owner.

I know that the 12v guys who get the larger throttle body mod from TAP do not have to do anything else to realize the gains, so this may work just as well. I can measure it and compare it to a 12v if someone knows the diameter of the 12v TB.
