Default I would start looking for a loose connection...

If it just stopped and didnt slow down for a few months before it stopped, its most likely just a mere problem with the wiring.

Before you go and buy a new motor, pull the seat off and everything else, search for a bad wiring connection. I had the same problem once with my drivers side seat, it just stopped. I looked for 2 mins and found a wire that had unclipped out of the connector right up in front, popped it back in and back to normal. I would first rule out every other option( checking fuses, etc) before taking the seat out and replacing a motor.

Default That's the problem, I can't get the seat off because the rails

are over the bolts that secure it to the car. If I could move it back, I could take it off and play with wires, as it is I can't get to any of that stuff.

So all of the other controls on your seat work, except the forward/back motion?

What exactly is wrong with your seat? Is there no power at all? Is the motor running but nothing is happening? Is it just the front to back controls that are not working?

If the switch is not working front to back, then you can power up the front to back motor with a 12V source. There are a couple ways to do this, but all difficult as it is super tight under the seat. I personally would remove the side controller and unplug the harness. From there, get a 12V source, battery or old 12V PC power supply and attach some probes to the end to stick in the connector. Brown on the connector is ground. The others are the power wires for the different motions of the seat. Start probing the positive wire to the non brown wires and see what happens. Find the correct one and move the seat into the desired position.

If you are finding that the seat is powered in some directions but not in others, it may be a faulty switch. You can take the switch apart and repair it. That’s what happened to mine. The circuit board was cracked so I just jumpered it with a stand of soldered wire.

I’ve also repaired a stripped motor for the up and doe. Feature on a B7. For that you will need a new motor and gear. The symptoms were you could hear the motor, but no motion.

Post up your exact symptoms and I’ll see if I can help.
