How can you visually tell if your car has been chipped by looking at the ECU?

You could do it yourself if you wanted...
Its only a matter of opening up the ECU box, disconnecting the five or so plugs from the ECU and pulling the 5 or 6 phillips head screws.
If you do, youll easily be able to tell if theres an aftermarket part in there.

"hass been" or "is" chipped? There's no way by looking into the ECU if someone removed the socket...
or if it wasn't a "socketed" chip to begin with and was soldered in where the stock chip lives. And not all vendors put a sticker on the outside as some vendors sell "chips only" for people to install into their own ECU... and even if they did it would be easy to remove. I have four P box ECU's... 3 are chipped in 179, 210 and 240HP version and not one of them has any telltale sticker besides the Audi sticker.
Bottom line is you simply cannot tell by looking at an ECU if it's virgin or violated.
