how to clean windows

A detailer told me today he cleans windows with steal wool brillo pads and windex -- is this safe? I have been using windex with paper towels but I always seem to have a film on the inside that fogs up at night.
One more thing, the detailer told me to wax the windows on the outside, said it has the same effect as rain-x. Anyone tried this yet?

I've never tried it, I use the rough side of a dish sponge to get any hard crap off. But otherwise windex, wax(on all but the front windshield) and rain-x(on the front) is what I stick by.

and the rear window. it does make a big difference. you wont need to use your wipers for quite some time and it makes the glass very clear.

I don't know about Brillo pads, but I use window cleaning foam (Gunk, I think) I got from Canadian Tire and old newspapers. You won't believe how clean your windows will be when wiping with newspaper (use B&W sections, though, not coloured comics, etc.). You would think that the ink would run, but it doesn't.
Give it a try.
