Ok, heres my problem. I really want a 2000 or 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro. I currently have a 1996 Saab 9000 Aero, which is a fast car, but i'm going to Michigan next year for college. I woudl only get a 5 speed, as that is what i have now and love driving a stick.
The points i have to get the audi are
1) Alot less miles, i have 110K on the saab and would only look for a car wiht under 50K preferbly 35K
2) Quattro in Michigan will be a great help
3) I feel its a better overall car
His points
1) Less miles mean a great depreation in the near future. He would rahter me put another 50K miles on a 110K mile car then a a 35K mile car
2) Saab with all weather tires shoudl be fine in snow, as they are made in Sweeden where there is alot of snow in winter.
3) He works for saab so parts are cheap
**4) he has only heard bad things about the pre 2002 "new body style" audi. he says they are netorious for braking down and beign in the shop and aprts cost alot.
Well now that you ahve read my problem, can anyone help me out and come up with more reason to get the audi. I really want to get one. if anyone has any input, good or bad please let me know.
Thanks for all your help,
Brian

with low miles. Car will probably cost somewhere in the 15-19K range, depending on miles. Buy an extended warranty. Better warranties are available for used cars with less than 50K miles.

1 show your dad that they don't have as huge maintenace problem as he says.
2 Saab is part of GM, highly doubt made in sweeden still. Anyways, quattro still much better. If it takes letting him drive one then so be it.
3. Show him you have found places (ie. ECS tuning, which by the way is highly recommended) that sell common maintenance parts for cheaper than the dealership, find reputable shops in that area for a cost effective, yet reliable service.
4. I can't tell your father what to believe and what not to believe.
bottom line, go out and find ways around his arguement, it may take research but it will be worth it if you score an A4.
Lastly, Here is my advice. Most A4 owners will agree 99.5 was the best year for that car anyways. It will be a little cheaper than an 00 or 01. A 99.5 has all the good stuff from the first years, and all the improments from the later years. My car is a 97 A4, it has only 70k on it. which IMO is great mileage for the year. You can defenitely find a 99.5 with really low milage if you want to...
If that fails, do what I did. Go out and buy your own damn car on your own funds. I picked up my A4 about 7 months ago and pay for everything. To include my mods. I can't be that much older than you anyways.(19yrs old) It's do-able if you want it bad enough. That's all.

I don't see how anyone could honestly say that Saabs are more reliable than Audi's.
However you could easily get away with driving a Saab in a snowy climate.

Dad works for Volvo,Buick,Saab dealership, so he gets a new volvo every few months. I cant afford my own car, as he paid for th saab. I guess opinions are to keep the saab.
