How do you find the number of a certain B5 that actually made it into the US?

You must be right as for the B5 RS4 Alone I found this:
B5 RS4 (1999-2001): Audi produced 6030 units between 1999 and 2001.
So if they made 6,000 RS4's I'm betting more than 1,400 S4 B5 Avants made it over here.
People on CL crack me up...

Start with a 2001 S4 Avant..Get the entire OEM RS4 body conversion..
OEM interior - seats, steering wheel, cluster, - OEM RS4 engine upgrades - Wheels and Wheel spacers to match the OEM stance for the Wide body - suspension.. You would be looking at $22,000+ (not including price of said used Avant) for your own US inspected RS4. All of this can be obtained from Axis.. Trust me, I have humored myself with the costs associated with a project like this for fun..*tear*

"The RS4 was available for sale in most of Europe and in some Latin American countries"
Do they drive on the right in Latin America? You can drive one back from there (!) and in Montana we don't have any kind of inspections, etc. They never actually look at your car. You just come in with a title and VIN and money to register. Done deal after that. Also, cars that are 11 years and older you can permanently register here. Next year my 98 gets a perm tag :-)

You cannot legally purchase a vehicle in Mexico and bring back to the states.
If that was not the case I would have an S3. European import or purchase from a US based owner is the only way to obtain a true RS4.

well...
if it was a B5S4 avant converted they did a really good job. It was all the body work, wheels, brakes, seats, interior etc. But I suppose I cannot say with certainty that it was an authentic RS4, so I retract my statement until I see it again and can verify if it is an RS or not.

I called AoA a while back when I was searching for an S4 Avant
They told me they produced 1,539 B5 S4 Avants. 947 of them were manual transmissions.
They produced nearly 15,000 sedans with a little more than 2/3rds of them manuals.
