Default How hard is a head gasket R&R???(AEB)

looks like I'll be doing one soon. A wee bit of oil has been seen on the turbo side and I have lost about .5 quart in the last 5k miles.

What should I do while it is torn down? A couple of things come to mind:

cam chain tensioner and seal, valve job, powdercoat valve cover

Default that doesn't add up

how do you know your head gasket is failing... They dont fail with any noteworthy frequency in my experience.

oil/coolant mixing?
not holding compression /leakdown ?
I dont think a small amount of oil on the cold side of the turbo is abnormal.

.5qt in 5k miles is not alarming, which oil are you using... what condition is your breather system in?

Default Oil is in the area of the head gasket, not the valve cover gasket. Using Mobil1 0W40

No oil/coolant mixing, breather system works, that is all I can say about. Should replace the components??

Default I'd start by cleaning things up with some brake clean/parts cleaner on a cold engine

inspect for valve cover leakage... then wait and see where the oil is coming from at the next oil change. Cam seals, valve covers, cam tensioner seals are all more common than head gaskets. I wouldnt be so chipper to get into replacing the head gasket anyways... thats a pretty nasty job.

Default I'll jump on the cleaning in the morning. Changing oil on Wed evening...

Just ordered the parts for the PCV system. I'll monitor the seepage and try to pinpoint the source.
