How long does it take to take off the valve cover, is it just a few screws?

Default How long does it take to take off the valve cover, is it just a few screws?
I was tempted to do it tonight after seeing the passat that was killed by sludge.

Any special tools?

Default 5 mins... couple of bolts
you will need a new gasket set though

Default it takes 10minutes...
you should have a new gasket though. make sure you clean the crap(SAND) off the engine before removing the valve cover or you will have crap(SAND) fall directly on your valve train. <---not good.

Is it a must for a new gasket even if i only want to look, clean a bit, then put back on?

Default Isn't it just like eating fiber? :) I read on one forum where some idiot thought he could polish...
the exhaust manifold by sucking sand through the intake. Everyone thought it was a joke, but the guy was serious. He blamed it on his friend.
