How many cases do you know of BLOWN TURBOS as a result of a chip?

These chips spin the k03-sport's way beyond their efficiency range.
Thats like saying if i rev my motor to 8000 rpm's on a regular basis is it going to wear out faster, or maybe fail at some point?
Yes, but given that the cars are so new, there are not many people running "X-CHIPS" for 150K miles to define the scope of the problem.
It's not like used turbo's for these cars are expensive or anything if you waste one you could probably get another nice low milage one for a couple hundred![Wink](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
don't worry bout it, enjoy your car

immediately after spirited drives... As long as you keep up with regular scheduled maintenance, and allow proper cool down time for your turbo you should have no problems.
Please reference idle down times.
1 minute - local driving
2 minutes - short stints/slightly aggressive driving
3+ minutes - strenous driving/racing-track applications
This is just to give you an idea... If you have ever opened up your hood after driving the car hard you will notice that if you look towards the left side of the 1.8 engine you will notice a glow. The glow is the turbo. If you shut off your car you would pretty much be baking the oil which is flowing through the turbo and slowly giving your turbo cardiac arrest. Hopefully you get the idea.

if you chip it, but don't drive it, you really won't increase your liklihood of turbo failure.
The 1.8T engines are extremely solid, and the turbos have excellent ventilation in the engine compartment. I've seen a few posts regarding blown turbos on this forum, but considering the number of people that have a chip on this forum, I think the incidents of turbo failure are extremely small.
Take two precautions...first, use synthetic oil, and change the oil and filter at 5K. Second, cool the car down for 1-2 minutes after hard driving. Ideally, the idle down time should be preceded by driving the last 2 miles to your destination off boost (drive like a granny).

A chip almost decreases the likelihood of something like that happening.. If ever in doubt, sit in your car and open the door and let the engine run till the dinging stops, about a minute...
