how many km's is the break-in period, and at what speeds/revs should i be driving at?

about `1600km (1000mi)-just vary the engine speeds, avoid hard braking for 300km, don't beat on car.

How many ppl in this forum are driving crazy (red-line or above 5000-6000rpm) during your break-in period?? This is interest to me as I thought it shouldn't rev more than 3000rpm.
