From STFA it seems that the shocks are the main factor when it comes to ride quality, and the springs mainly control dive/squat and roll, as well as ride height.
Is this correct?

if your dampening isnt suited to your cars weight and spring rates, then you will get bouncy suspension... just like those hondas with big ***** and megaphone exhaustigators.

It depends on how much you're increasing the spring rates. A 50 lb difference in spring rates is hard to notice. When you get to 100 lb differences, it's a subtle change that you may notice. 200 lbs increases in spring rates you'll certainly notice.

and even a few "race" types the rate increases less than 100 pounds, noticeable, but not enough to be annoying. shocks affect what you feel over bumps, they dictate how fast the car recovers from a bump, and thats what you feel most.
