a final gear ratio of 4.11 iirc is the A4 ratio
but if you have a longer 5th gear your rpms will be lower at high speed... than if you have a shorter 5th gear (like the 1.8T does).
the 2.8 simply has longer gears... thus putting the 2.8 trans into a 1.8T which has been tuned is a good idea, the car will hit 60 in 2nd gear and cruise a few hundred rpm lower at 80mph, which means better fuel economy.
