Default How much wastegate actuator rod movement?

Today I replaced a defective N75 (boost pressure control valve) on my '99 1.8TQ (135 K mi). Before finishing the install I applied vaccuum to the control rod actuator to check movement. I couldn't see any. Does this mean the actuator assembly is shot? How much vacuum is needed? Bob

Default most of the ones I see fail.... the fasteners on the wastegate end actually fall off and the gate...

is let flop open and around on its very own.

Default use one of those compresed air cans

you'll see it work. That's how I taught my gf how a turbo actuator ("thingy" her words) works. The rod will move and all that good stuff.

My confusion!. I thought it was vacuum operated. I now realize it's pressure operated. In road testing the car, it seems to work ok. I've got VAG-COM so I can check boost pressure. Anybody give me procedure for doing that?

Default you cant check boost pressure on a 99 with a VAG Tool.

They do not have a boost pressure sensor. You need a boost gauge.
